Athens has been the capital of Greece since 1834 and the country's largest and most populous city. It was named after the Goddess Athena. It is located in Attica, in eastern Central Greece, and is one of the oldest cities in the world, with its recorded history reaching as far as 3,200 BC. Ancient Athens, originally a settlement on the Acropolis, developed in the 6th century BC. in a powerful city-state, which developed alongside its port, which was initially Faliro and later Piraeus. Until the 6th century, it was the most important center of arts, knowledge and philosophy, seat of Plato's Academy and Aristotle's Lyceum.

The word Acropolis comes from the combination of the words Ακλομος and polis and literally means city on the edge. For defensive purposes, the settlers chose an elevated point, often a hill with steep sides. In many parts of the world, these early fortified settlements became the nucleus of large cities, which expanded into the flat terrain around the Acropolis. Acropolis, although primarily associated with Greek cities such as Athens, Argos, Ancient Thebes and Ancient Corinth, can be used generically for all fortified hilltop settlements. The term acropolis is also used to describe complex overlapping structures, such as plazas and pyramids, at many Maya cities, including Tikal and Copan.

Olympia was the most glorified sanctuary of ancient Greece dedicated to Zeus. It was the venue of the Olympic Games which were held as part of the Olympia. Olympia was called Altis, meaning Sacred Grove. It was built on the north bank of the river Alpheios. There are traces of human presence from the Neolithic period. Initially, it was a rural settlement and gradually developed into the largest religious center of the ancient world. There, for about a thousand years, stood the chryselephantine statue of Zeus, the work of Phidias, which was known in antiquity as one of the seven wonders of the world. The starting point of the Olympic Games is placed in 776 BC. and was held every four years.

Acheron is a river in the region of Epirus and crosses the prefectures of Ioannina, Thesprotia and Preveza. The sources of Acheron are many. Its first sources come from the snows of Mount Tomaros in the Prefecture of Ioannina (maximum altitude 1,986 meters), and its other sources come from the mountains of Souli and the mountains of Paramythia in Thesprotia. Important springs are also those of the village of Glyki Thesprotia. The Acheron empties into the Ionian Sea, in the village of Ammoudia in Preveza, where it forms a delta, from which the two main marshes of the area are formed, the marshes of Splantza and Valanidorrachis. Acheron, due to the Necromancy of Acheron, the ancient tradition and the environmental value, attracts thousands of visitors from its sources to its estuaries. Its length is 52 kilometers while its waters irrigate approximately 85,000 acres, of which 28,000 are in the Prefecture of Thesprotia and 57,000 in the Prefecture of Prevezi. The upper course of the river is also called "Mavropotamos", while the lower part, passing through the plain of Fanario, is also called "Fanariotiko".

Delphi was an ancient Greek city, located in Central Greece, where the most important oracle of the ancient Greek world operated. The city is mentioned since Homeric times as Pytho. At the beginning of historical times it was recognized as one of the cities of ancient Phocis, but this changed when gradually the role of the city developed and evolved into a pan-Hellenic center and a holy city of the ancient Greeks. Delphi maintained its important position until the end of the 4th century AD, when the operation of the oracle was put to an end by decree of the emperor Theodosius the First.

Epidaurus is the most important ancient place of worship of the god Asklepios. It is located in the area of the current city of Lygouri (Municipality of Asklipieiou, Municipality of Epidaurus) in the Peloponnese in the region of Argolis, about 30 km from the city of Nafplio, 20 km from New Epidaurus and about 13 km from Old Epidaurus. Since 1988 it has been part of its world cultural heritage.

Thessaloniki is the second largest city in population in Greece and the largest city in area and population in all of Macedonia. It is the seat of the Municipality of Thessaloniki and the capital of the Regional Unity of Thessaloniki, the metropolitan area of Thessaloniki, as well as the seat of the Region of Central Macedonia and the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia - Thrace. Saint Demetrius is the patron saint of the city. It was founded in 316/5 BC. by the Macedonian general Cassander, who named her after his wife and half-sister of Alexander the Great, Thessaloniki.

The Isthmus of Corinth is a narrow strip of land that connects Central Greece with the Peloponnese, while the canal that has been opened in it connects the Saronic with the Gulf of Corinth. It is about 6 kilometers long and the narrowest point is where the Corinth Canal was built (1880-1893). It was a strategic point and for this reason a wall had already been built since ancient times (end of the 5th century BC), which had been preserved until the Byzantines. Since 1893, the Corinth Canal has been opened on the 6.3 kilometers wide isthmus, which in practice makes the Peloponnese an island.

Ioannina, also known as Ioannina or Ioannina, is a city in Epirus, seat of the Municipality of Ioannina and capital of the Regional Unity of Ioannina. They are also the headquarters and largest city of the Region of Epirus as well as the Decentralized Administration of Epirus - Western Macedonia. The population of the city amounts to 65,574 inhabitants, according to the census of 2011. Ioannina is located in the northwestern part of mainland Greece, in the center of the basin of the same name. It is one of the largest cities in Greece with a rich cultural tradition and modern development enterprises. Among the diverse geographical features of the region, Lake Pamvotida, adjacent to the city, holds a special place.

Kalavryta is a small mountain town in the Prefecture of Achaia. They are built in the Aroania Mountains (Chelmos) at an altitude of 735 meters. They are the seat of the Municipality of the same name, as well as of the District of the same name. Their population according to the national census of 2011 amounts to 1,674 permanent residents, while making them one of the most important centers of the prefecture and the most important inland of its eastern part. In 2001 they had 1,679 permanent residents.

Meteora is a cluster of dark sandstone rocks that rise outside Kalambaka in Thessaly, near the first heights of Pindos and Hasia. The monasteries of Meteora, which are built on the tops of some of the rocks, are today the second most important monastic complex in Greece, after Mount Athos. Of the thirty that existed historically, today only six are operational.

Mycenae was an ancient city of Argolis near the mountain Tritos and opposite the Argolic gulf. The archaeological site of Mycenae is located approximately 90 kilometers southwest of Athens, in the northeastern Peloponnese. During the 2nd millennium BC, Mycenae was one of the largest centers of Greek civilization, constituting a powerful military fortress that dominated most of the southern Greece. The period of Greek history between 1600 BC to about 1100 BC called "Mycenaean", referring to Mycenae. At the height of their glory, in 1350 BC, the castle and lower town had 30,000 inhabitants and covered an area of 32 hectares.

Nafplio or Anapli is a city of the Peloponnese, the capital of the Regional Unit of Argolis, seat of the municipality of Nafplio and the main port of the eastern Peloponnese. It has been characterized as a traditional settlement and was the capital of the Greek state during the period 1828 – 1833. Nafplio is known for Bourtzi, a small fortress built on an island in the harbor. From 1930 the castle was converted into a hotel, which operated until 1970. According to Greek mythology, Nafplius founded Nafplio on the site of the current city, which was fortified with cyclopean walls. Olympus is the highest mountain in Greece, known worldwide mainly for its mythological context, as at its peak (Mytikas, altitude 2,918 meters) lived the Twelve "Olympic" Gods according to the religion of the ancient Greeks. It is also the second highest mountain in the Balkans with Rila in Bulgaria being the first by only a few meters difference. Its compact mountain mass is located on the borders of Macedonia and Thessaly, with a series of high peaks that groove deep ravines, around which stretches an area of special biodiversity. To protect the area, it was declared in 1938 as the first National Park of Greece, while later the Greek Ministry of Culture declared Olympus as an archaeological and historical site due to its scattered monuments.
